The medals given out at the 2008 Beijing Olympics may not be totally settled. Two Olympic medal winners reported tested positive for doping, and may in line for a major demotion.
RTE (and other media outlets) report that Vadim Devyatovskiy (below) and Ivan Tsikhan (left and left) -- Belarusian hammer throw athletes -- may see silver and bronze medals (respectively) go negative if their urine is positive.
The International Olympic Committee are investigating the Belarusian athletes who claimed silver and bronze in the men's hammer event in Beijing over alleged failed drug tests.
Vadim Devyatovskiy and Ivan Tsikhan tested positive for testosterone following the hammer final in the Chinese capital on 17 August.
The IOC will make an announcement on the pair after a decision has been reached by the executive board and disciplinary commission, who will meet at the end of the month.
Devyatovskiy, 31, could face a lifetime ban after already having served a suspension for a drugs offense in 2000.
For 32-year-old Tsikhan - three-time defending world champion, silver medalist in Athens and European champion in 2006 - it would be a first offence.
It appears the gold medal won by the Slovenian Primoz Kozmus is safe.
The gold medal in Beijing went to Slovenia's Primoz Kozmus (82.02metres), with
Devyatovskiy 41 centimetres back on 81.61m and and Tsikhan a further 10 centimetres behind on 81.51.
Should the Belarusian pair be found guilty and disqualified from the Beijing competition, the Olympic silver medal would go to Krisztian Pars of Hungary (80.96m) and bronze to Japan's Koji Murofushi (80.71m).
How long does it take for the IOC to announce failed doping tests? How long ago did the athletes become aware of the failed test and subsequent investigation?

Is it possible that some Belarussian men just have higher testosterone levels that other men?

There is no good reason for umps to get paid if they cannot call balls and strikes as defined in the rule book. It is not hard to monitor their performance.
