Plano Texas steroid entrepreneur Dave Jacobs sang to the NFL yesterday, about his ex-NFL PED clients. Hey, did they expect doctor-patient confidentiality or what? The Dallas Morning News has this one covered: David Jacobs is naming names. Just not publicly.
The convicted Plano steroids trafficker gave NFL security officials
information about football players he sold steroids to during a
much-anticipated meeting Wednesday. "The general topic
was his knowledge of steroid and human growth hormone use by current
and former players," said Hank Hockeimer, Mr. Jacobs' attorney, who
accompanied his client to the meeting that took place in the Dallas
area. "They were thorough in their questioning," Mr.
Hockeimer said. "David provided them with documents corroborating what
he was telling them." In past
weeks, Mr. Jacobs has publicly accused ex-Dallas Cowboys lineman Matt
Lehr of buying large quantities of banned substances. At the time, he
was playing for the Atlanta Falcons. He is now signed with the New
Orleans Saints. Mr. Lehr's attorney, Paul Coggins, said
he was not aware of Wednesday's meeting between Mr. Jacobs and the NFL
and couldn't comment on it, other than to say, "Matt's playing in the
NFL next year, and for many years to come." Mr. Jacobs
has not publicly named any other players, but has said he worked with
Cowboys as well as the Atlanta Falcons. NFL spokesman
Greg Aiello declined to comment on Wednesday's meeting, what was
discussed or whether any players will be sanctioned. He did say that the league was not paying Mr. Jacobs for his information.
When asked what the league said it would do with Mr. Jacobs'
information, Mr. Hockeimer said, "My assumption is that this is all
part of a league investigation ... It's their investigation, and that's
their call."
Mr. Jacobs defamed Cowboys/Falcons/Saints lineman Matt Lehr over the past few months. Must be a falling out there (photo of three big hombres above). Lehr's attorney says Lehr will be in the NFL for a long time, but with a different steroids supplier.
It will be a relief to millions that the NFL is not compensating Jacobs for his time and effort. Great PR for any upcoming book. Will the NFL actually investigate PED use this time?
