According to Jose Canseco's new book "Vindicated" he discussed steroids and HGH with '60 Minutes' correspondent Mike Wallace. Similar to questions about A-Rod's powerhouse musculature, we wonder if Mike Wallace owes his incredible physique to Canseco's steroid/HGH advice? (Newsday)
Alex Rodriguez and Roger Clemens aren't the only targets of speculation in Jose Canseco's new book. In "Vindicated," Canseco wonders - only half-jokingly, it appears - whether he successfully persuaded legendary "60 Minutes" reporter Mike Wallace to try steroids and human growth hormone.
Canseco didn't succeed, Wallace told Newsday yesterday. But Wallace confirmed a detail from Canseco's book. Just as Canseco writes, Wallace said, the two men did discuss illegal performance-enhancing drugs, off-camera, after a 2005 interview.
"I remember talking at some length to Jose," Wallace said. "You sit there, shooting the breeze. It was an interesting exchange ... "
Canseco wrote: "When the cameras stopped rolling, Wallace asked me if we could talk, off-camera. He kept me there for another hour, clearly curious about steroids ... He wondered how the steroids and human growth hormones [HGH] might help him, a man in his eighties, live a longer, healthier life."
So maybe Wallace started juicing?
" . . . When Wallace was done interrogating me," Canseco continued, "I could see I had piqued his interest. Whether I'd made a convert of him, I can't say."
Wallace, who will turn 90 in May, laughed when asked if he had become "a convert" and answered, simply, "No."
Hmmmm, Wallace looks pretty good...getting the chicks like the home run hitters, too.
