MLB announced Detroit Tiger utility player Neifi Perez will be suspended yet another time; this suspension earns Perez 80 games. ESPN is sourced here.
A reading of the MLB substance abuse rules says that the third episode of a banned substance results in an 80 game suspension. Perez' earlier suspension was 25 games, which would count as his second episode with the 'substance'.
ESPN does the math on the money this is costing Perez:
His initial suspension cost him $396,175, and the second will cost him $792,350 -- a total of $1,188,525 of his $2.5 million salary. He will miss the final 54 games of the regular season and finish serving the suspension next year, if he is signed.
Should Perez be in the league come next spring, he will be watched like a hawk:
Because of his initial positive test, Perez is subject to at least six additional tests over the next year.
The Freep says this suspension will likely end Perez' Detroit career.
Three positive tests, allegedly for a 'stimulant' on Neifi. We would wonder if Perez shows a problem beyond using that drug as a performance enhancement drug (PED). If so, here's hoping MLB refers Perez to the right rehab facility to get things back on track.
I really enjoyed this post,I am looking for something else, but cool site.I am deeply moved by what you said today.
