Setanta Sports says Euro cross country Mo Farah thinks former UK sprinter Dwain Chambers is a loser. Story here. Farah responded to Chambers BBC interview.
European cross-country champion Mo Farah has called Dwain Chambers a "loser" following the former British sprinter's claims that only drug-fueled athletes can win an Olympic title.
Chambers claimed on television on Monday night that there will always be athletes who use performance enhancing drugs and that the only way they would not win an Olympic final would be if they were having a "real bad day".
But Farah - the European 5,000metres silver medalist - has hit back at the former European 100m champion who served a two-year ban for taking the designer steroid THG.
"That was nonsense. I was really angry about that. I train so hard and for him to say you can't do it without cheating is wrong," he told PA.
"I believe that if you train your hardest you can achieve. "Look at Paula Radcliffe. She trains hard and that is why she does incredible things.
"You (Chambers) are a loser. It is because you don't want to train hard."
Ouch, that's a little harsh. Farah better watch out with Chambers in football and all...
The 24-year-old continued: "Sometimes you make the wrong decision and it is fair enough to hold your hands up and say 'I've done it'. I respect him for admitting he took a wrong turn.
"But then at the same time to say you cannot get to the top without cheating - I don't believe that.
"It is what you teach yourself. There will be times when you think nothing will happen but you have to be strong, you have to believe that you can achieve your goals otherwise what is the point?
"I had these dreams as a kid and I still have them - I want to go as far as I can and do the best I can."
Farah has been selected as one of 16 athletes on Team Visa, who will be mentored in the build up to the Beijing Olympics by Sir Steve Redgrave and Dame Tanni Grey-Thomspon.
Five-time Olympic gold medalist Redgrave agreed with Farah: "What Chambers had to say is totally ridiculous. Sprinters can be very insular and a law unto themselves. If they aren't getting the best results they think everyone else is cheating to get there.
"I competed for 25 years, never took an illegal drug in my life and never considered it.
"For me it was about trying to become the best athlete I possibly could and by doing that I managed to win some Olympic medals."
Farah begins his quest for a medal at the World Championships in Osaka this August at the Norwich Union Glasgow Grand Prix on 3 June.
