BERLIN, Feb 21, 2007 (AFP) - Former Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich is to make a statement regarding his future on Monday, sparking rumours he may be about to quit cycling.
The 1997 champion was barred from taking part in last year's race after being implicated in a doping scandal just before the race began.
He has not been found guilty of any infringements but was fired
by his T-Mobile team and has since failed to find a new team.
The 33-year-old will hold a press conference on Monday at a
hotel in Hamburg, claiming he will announce "something delightful
regarding his career" while also stating that he will not answer any
questions.
Ullrich was one of the riders implicated by the Spanish blood
doping probe Operation Puerto in which a laboratory owned by Dr
Eufemiano Fuentes was raided, with items that could be used in blood
doping being found.
The German has always denied knowing Fuentes but is the subject
of German and Swiss cycling federation investigations.
