Several developments on the boxing front.
1. Former AIDS-patient, former-steroid user, former-ex con Tommy Morrison won a fight the other night. Does that tell you the sad state of boxing regulation in this country that a complete Neanderthal like Morrison can still box. Yes, it does.
MSNBC features Morrison. Wonder what dope this criminal is taking these days?
CHESTER, W.Va. - That left hook still works all these years later for Tommy Morrison.
The former WBO heavyweight champion stopped John Castle in the second round Thursday night in his return to the ring 11 years after testing positive for the virus that causes AIDS.
The 38-year-old Morrison, who claims he has no trace of the AIDS virus after taking several HIV tests, dropped Castle with a left hook to the head midway through the second of the scheduled four-round fight at Mountaineer Racetrack and Gaming Resort, about 60 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
SF Gate reports featherweight 'the Ghost' Robert Guerrero is in line for a title fight in Denmark. Boxing is unsure of his record because he lost a title bout to a doping boxer who tested positive for 'roids. The ghost should be Salido who tested positive; his career should be over. Boxing is permissive, apparently.
The title, yes. Guerrero won the IBF version of the featherweight title by beating Eric Aiken last year. In his first defense on Nov. 4, the Ghost was defeated by Mexico's Orlando Salido, but following the fight the victor tested positive for illegal steroids and was suspended.
The disposition of the case is still pending, which means Guerrero's record is either 19-2-1 reflecting the loss to Salido or 19-1-1 if the results of the bout are nullified.
In Fight News Guerrero had this comment:
Losing his title against Salido had quite an impact on Guerrero, it was something that he admits he was surprised by, "There was a lot to that fight, I didn't prepare right for it. It was a crazy fight, it was like being in a dream. He was so fast, and strong, it was like a blur in the whole fight. I was amazed by his performance, even after the fight. I think about it all of the time. God had his hand on me, because with all of the pressure that he put on me, and with the steroids that he was on, I came out of that fight clean, not a bruise on me. I am right here fighting for a world title again, and I thank God for that."
