Drug-cheat former European 100M sprint champions Dwain Chambers passed the filed in the NFL-Europe tryouts held in Spain, this month. Chambers now heads to Tampa Florida for the NFL-Europe camp there, hoping for a contract. Story here at CBC.CA. (photo, Yahoo)
How should Chamber's new career be considered? Good work, for his effort to use his athletic abilty in a new endeavor? Or, should the NFL be chastised for allowing a BALCO drug-cheat back in business? Looking at his photo, seems Chambers likes taking his shirt off at track meets, to show off those muscles.
LONDON (AP) - British sprinter Dwain Chambers, who served a two-year doping ban, made the first cut of an NFL Europa training camp on Friday that could lead to him signing with a team.
Chambers, the former European 100-metre champion, was selected for a six-week NFL Europa camp in Tampa, Fla. If Chambers makes the next cut, he will earn a contract with an NFL Europa team.
"Obviously, he has done pretty well so far or else we wouldn't be looking at him," NFL International director of public affairs David Tossell said.
Chambers, who has been playing as a wide receiver, was among 270 non-American players who attended tryouts in Barcelona, Spain. Of those, 89 were picked to go to the Florida training camps. The field will be cut to 48 on March 8 and the players will then be divided among the six NFL Europa teams.
"For now it is more a question of: 'Does he have potential that can be developed?"' Tossell said.
Chambers, who once ran the 100 in 9.87 seconds, was suspended from track and field after testing positive for TGH, the designer steroid at the heart of the BALCO scandal. He was stripped of his personal and team results from January 2002 to August 2003. He returned to competition in June and won the 400 team relay gold at the European Championship in August.
Rocker said a doctor hired by the Players' Association pulled aside himself, A-Rod, Ivan Rodriguez and Rafael Palmeiro following a spring training lecture and candidly told them how to use steroids.
