In his new autobiography entitled "I am Not God" former cyclist Frank Vandenbroucke is quoted in Cyclingpost.com as writing (about doping in cycling) "Everybody did it, and so did I...It is the truth and it does not diminish the value of my victories." His physician also pitched in with the scheme.
The former Mapei and Cofidis rider achieved some nice results in the past, such as the Österreich-Rundfahrt, Paris-Nice, Gent-Wevelgem, the Omloop Het Volk and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
However, in 1999, Vandenbroucke's doctor Bernard Sainz was suspected of having negociated doping products. Three years later, the rider himself was suspended after doping was found at his home.
The 32-year-old is currently riding for Acqua & Sapone, after having spent some time at several other teams, including Lampre, Quickstep, Fassa Bortolo and Unibet.com.
Today, Cyclingpost.com reports the quote was a misunderstanding.
According to the publisher of Frank Vandenbroucke's biography, the quote "Everybody did it, and so did I" is not his.
Borgerhoff & Lamberigts, who will publish the book, announced in a statement on Sunday evening that the quote did not belong to Vandenbroucke and that all of this was based ona misunderstanding.
The Belgian's biography, named "I am not God", will be released on February 5 in Belgium.
Works very well on bloodI’m still waiting for some interesting thoughts from your site in your next post.So wonderful.
