David O'Neill

Nobody has ever claimed that Johnston was a clean athlete but the circumstances of his positive test are extremely dubious.

Read Charlie Francis' book on the topic.

From The Nation:
Thanks for the comment.

While Francis, the doc (who recently died), and Johnson are all conflicted about his tests, there is very little doubt Ben Johnson doped. Little doubt. He was caught twice in his career doping with Winstrol.

Johnson claimed last year that someone spiked his beer. Someone claims that the doc spiked Johnson's injections for spite. Whatever, these were steroids promoting and steroid using athletes, coaches, and doctors. We have little sympathy for cheaters like this.

David O'Neill

But why ignore it, as I'm sure you're aware there are huge clouds of doubt hanging over the US T&F team from that time with regard to covered up failed drugs tests. Allowing one set of 'cheats' to frame another set of 'cheats' doesn't really benefit anyone.

As far as I'm concerned the whole race was a farce whether a proven cheater like Johnston won or an almost certain cheater like Lewis.

From Steroid Nation:

Hard to argue with your point. It was a dirty race, although Lewis' sin was the use of a 'stimulant' in a prior race.
