Barry Bond's trainer Greg Anderson has been ordered freed, unless a lower court, once again finds him in contempt of court. Anderson has steadfastly not testified against Bonds. He was ordered to jail, however may now be free today.
The story is here in the NY Times.
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 4 (AP) — A federal appeals court has ordered Barry Bonds’s personal trainer to be released from prison by 5 p.m. on Thursday unless a lower court again holds him in contempt for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating Bonds for perjury.
Greg Anderson is imprisoned for the third time, twice for refusing to testify whether Bonds, the San Francisco Giants slugger, used steroids and another time after pleading guilty to steroid distribution and money laundering charges.
In its order Wednesday, the 9th United States Circuit Court of Appeals did not rule on the merits of Anderson’s challenge to his latest contempt order. Federal rules prohibit a person from being imprisoned on a civil contempt charge for more than 30 days unless the charge is affirmed by a federal appeals court.
