Greg Anderson, Barry Bonds former trainer, was released today from the jail cell where he was sent on a contempt citation for refusing to testify before a now-defunct grand jury in the Bay area.
Now the bad news. A newly convened grand jury is requesting Mr. Anderson's presence next Thursday.
Interesting.
This suggests that the old grand jury bought some of the juice the US Attorney Ryan was selling. However either there wasn't enough at this time, or he wanted new members on a new grand jury.
How long is this going to drag out? I would hope someone would make a decision that there is enough evidence to indict people for perjury and/or tax evasion, or forget it.
Let's call it the 'Iraq Phenomenon'. If something is rubbed in the public's face long enough, it ceases to be important, but rather becomes annoying or even dangerous.
Mr. Bonds’s physical transformation, power surge and surly attitude came to personify an era of denial of steroids use in baseball. Already the holder of the single-season home run record in the major leagues, Mr. Bonds passed Babe Ruth earlier this season for second place on the career list, behind only Hank Aaron.
That's harsh from the Times. Yes, Bonds had a physical transformation; however the 'power surge' is up for debate. I looked at the year by year figures in the Bonds record. Without going into the data in minutiae I would argue that Bonds probably added some pop to his 'elderly' bat at a time when most men's physical prowess is deceasing. However, I suspect that he has a historic ability to hit a baseball that use of anabolic substances enhanced somewhat...10% - 15%. In other words Bonds likely would have hit 50-60 HRs in 2001 even without 'roids and the other alleged substances he ingested or took. Without anabolics, Bonds would have enjoyed a late life Hank Aaron year (Aaron hit his highest season total HRs when he was 37) or two.
Now Bonds is Darth Vader only without the charm.
Either ban and test for the drugs like you (MLB) mean it; or make these compounds legal through a physician.
Works very well on bloodI came to your article from another article and am really interested in this learning about this.
