Another Bulgarian athlete was involved in a doping scandal. In the center of the problem was the sprinter Ivet Lalova. According to publications in the “Courrir” newspaper the manager of the Bulgarian Stephan Machiner has regularly given to his athletes forbidden substances.
The newspaper’s publications are based on the triathlon athlete Lisa Huthaller, who claims that the agent has made a special calendar with the specific substances and when they should be taken. Machiner has denied Huthaller’s accusations.
Ivet is in the committee of the European association athletes where she was elected not only because of her sport qualities but also for her personal ones. The bad thing is that the involving in this scandal is coming in a moment when she is recovering from a new injury”, said Lalova’s coach Konstantin Milanov.
Ivet’s sister – Ani was also surprised with the accusations. “Ivet is impeccable”.
Ivet Lalova made an official statement. “It is highly unpleasant to me that exactly in this moment my name is involved in a scandal. In a moment when my returning to the sport is the most important of all, the media cite an Austrian newspaper that is involving me in a scandal.
My relations with Stephan Machienr have only been as between a manager and an athlete. With which other sports people he was working and what were their relations I am not aware of and I haven’t been interested professionally.
After the first doping scandal with his cyclist in the end of 2008 I announced my intention not to work with him anymore. As a result after the end of the last winter season I canceled my contract with him. I don’t want to bare responsibility for the actions of someone else. I am attacked by an Austrian journalist whom I have “allegedly” refused an interview.
This is absurd. I haven’t even been contacted for a comment from that newspaper. For nearly 5 years I am in the list of 24-hour checked athletes. I have more than 15 controls every year.
