Sofia Locomotive midfielder Nikolai Pavlov will not be salivating over a 2 year suspension handed out when the Union of European Football Associations found nandrolone in his doping test. To the IHT:
Lokomotiv Sofia midfielder Nikolai Pavlov must serve a two-year doping ban after his appeal against suspension was dismissed, UEFA said Tuesday.
The 21-year-old Pavlov tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid nandrolone after the first leg of the Bulgarian club's UEFA Cup qualifying match against Borac Cacak in Serbia on Aug. 14. Borac advanced 2-1 on aggregate.
European football's governing body said its appeal panel judged Pavlov had "significant" responsibility for the doping offense.
The panel upheld the verdict delivered by UEFA's disciplinary committee last October, banning Pavlov from all levels of football until Sept. 11, 2010.
Pavlov' suspension was only the 5th nandrolone ban to dog UEFA history:
It was the fifth case involving nandrolone that UEFA has dealt with since 1994, and the fourth case of anabolic steroid abuse since its current anti-doping program began in 2005.
