One wonders if the high demands of elite race-walking haven't gone too far. Like the Tour de France, race walkers are asked to endure physical pain and stress that leave them exhausted, broken and forever scarred from the incredible battles on the walk course. So take this story in stride.
It must be because those Russians doped with super-PED, EPO. This just-released banned list from the Guardian includes the world record holder Sergei Morozov, and the prior WR holder Vladimir Kanaikin. (there was pre-Olympic talk about the doped up walkers and possible Olympic taint)
MOSCOW, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Five leading Russian race walkers, including a world record holder, have been banned for doping, the Russian athletics federation (RAF) said on Tuesday.
Sergei Morozov, who holds the world record in the 20km walk, Vladimir Kanaikin, Viktor Burayev, Alexei Voevodin and Igor Yerokhin were banned for two years each after testing positive for EPO."They all had failed a test for EPO and after a hearing by our federation's anti-doping board on Sept. 9, each of the five athletes was banned for two years," RAF secretary general Vladimir Usachyov was quoted as saying by the All Sport news agency.(Reporting by Gennady Fyodorov; editing by Pritha Sarkar)
It will be difficult for Morozov to just walk away from the world record...You can walk but you can't hide if you dope.
