A
number of Australian Olympic team members had their drinks spiked in a
Beijing nightclub while celebrating the end of their competitions.
A
female athlete - understood to be an archer - fell ill while at the
China Doll bar, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has confirmed.
Another
victim complained to Fairfax newspapers of suddenly feeling ill,
vomiting and then passing out on a couch in the popular nightclub.
The
attacks led to the AOC sending out a text message to all team members
and staff,
warning them to stay clear of the bar before the final
weekend of the games, when most celebrations would begin.
"One
athlete in particular thought she had her drink spiked in a bar and
then the word went
out that maybe we shouldn't frequent that bar," AOC
spokesman Mike Tancred told Fairfax.
"It was fairly early on, but she had finished competition and that was the only reason she was in a bar."
As
more athletes began celebrating the end of their Olympic campaigns,
more reports of drink spiking emerged from the China Doll.
The AOC does not believe the alleged spikings were aimed at making the athletes fail anti-doping tests.
Paralympians last night received a warning about unruly behaviour, following the revelations of drink spiking.
That is low, low down: so there were some down sides to China, when the women's world cup of soccer was held there last year, there were allegations of cheating by the Chinese looking into a one way mirror where the Denmark team planned strategies. That is a matter of record. I don't believe it affected the Danes games however but was intimidating and I believe did in fact happen and are not mere allegations.
