Azerbaijan asked the Olympics' arbitration court Friday to remove Spain's women's field hockey team from the Beijing Games for doping violations and let Azerbaijan's team compete instead.
Azerbaijan's national Olympic committee and national hockey federation lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which has put a special tribunal in place in Beijing
to rule quickly on disputes involving the Aug. 8-24 games.
Azerbaijan is challenging a decision by the International Hockey Federation, known as FIH, on alleged doping violations by two Spanish players at an Olympic qualifying tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan.
