"Zero Tolerance" for steroids in baseball isn't tolerated

A website promoting 'zero tolerance' for steroid and PED use in baseball seems to be attracting almost zero interest.

The site. launched in December, aimed to present 1 million signatures to MLB by opening day 2008, objecting to the abuse of anabolic steroids and doping in baseball.  The petition also calls for a boycott of the All-Star game is no action is forthcoming from the MLB.

912690 My name is Robert Fine. It's very late on a rainy Friday night here in Washington, DC. I'm a huge baseball fan. Always have been since I can remember. I'll be 37 years old in April and have lived in DC for the last 13 years. I grew up 5 minutes from downtown Philadelphia with the Philadelphia Phillies of the late 70s and early 80s. I watched them win the 1980 World Series...Mike Schmidt...Bob Boone...Tug McGraw...Steve Carlton...and yes...Pete Rose.

After living in DC for 10 years, I was certainly missing baseball, and never could really adopt the Baltimore Orioles. And after watching the drama of where the Expos might move for a couple of years, I was thrilled that they were coming to Washington. I've been a season ticket holder since Day 1, and have my seats for the first season at the new stadium. I can't wait. Really!

I've been following the steroids stories on and off for the last couple of years, and my ears pricked up after the Mitchell report, but it wasn't until I read Mike Wise's article in the Washington Post last weekend that I truly felt moved on the issue and wanted to do something besides sit by and see nothing continue to be done.

So, I urge you to help me by signing the following petition if you haven't already and forwarding it to your friends:

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/zerotoleranceforbaseball/

As of tax day, April 15, 2008, there were 61 signatures...999,939 short of a million.  Either publicity for the site is lacking, or fan motivation to object to PEDs is major league lacking.

Sure doesn't look like fans are scurrying to the petition to express disgust.   But there it is, an organized way to send a message to MLB about doping.

(Petition after the jump)

We are petitioning Major League Baseball (MLB) to adopt a zero tolerance policy on steroid use in the league.

We would like to collect and deliver 1,000,000 signatures to the office of MLB commissioner Allen H. (Bud) Selig no later than March 15, 2008.

We request MLB to adopt the suggested following policy by the start of the 2008 MLB season:

1) For any minor or major league player caught using steroids the first time, an automatic 1-year suspension from MLB.

2) For any minor or major league player caught using steroids a second time, an automatic 2-year suspension from MLB.

3) For any minor or major league player caught using steroids a third time, an automatic 10-year suspension from MLB.

If there is no policy resembling a zero tolerance approach from MLB by the start of the season on March 22, 2008 in Japan, we will call for a boycott of all baseballs games taking place on July 4, 2008 as well the 2008 All-Star Game.
