As Roger Clemens denied an affair with singer Mindy McCready, the singer tacitly accepted the story's premises:
"I cannot refute anything in the story," McCready told the Daily News in a story posted on its Web site Monday. "I have known Roger Clemens for a long time," she said, without detailing the nature of their relationship. (and Daily News story)
Clemens, through his lawyer denied any intimate contact with the singer:
"Mindy McCready is a longtime friend of Roger Clemens and the Clemens family. At no time did Roger engage in any kind of inappropriate or improper relationship with her. It is unfortunate that the Daily News has chosen to report anonymous allegations that are completely unfounded, have no basis in fact, and have nothing to do with Roger's baseball career or the issue of steroid use in baseball."
Seems the last part of that statement carries some logic. Although it seems Clemens started flirting with the singer when she was 15m that action has little to do with his steroid and HGH use -- unless this is more evidence of Clemens's lack of veracity. Clemens's credibility comes into play when assessing the he said-he said Clemens-McNamee feud over Clemens purported steroids and HGH use.
The other side of the story present Clemens as a humanitarian. If ever in trouble we urge readers to petition the Rocket for some quick cash...
The newspaper said Clemens sent cash to McCready to help her with legal issues and
reached out to her when she was in jail last year in Tennessee. Clemens sometimes sent her amounts of $25,000, the paper said.
The 32-year-old McCready was sentenced last September for violating probation from a 2004 drug arrest and was released from jail last Dec. 30. The violation occurred in July when McCready was accused of scuffling with her mother and resisting arrest at her mother's home in Fort Myers, Fla. She still must serve two years' probation.
McNamee's lawyer continued:
"The point is whether he was damaged by the allegations that he used steroids - he claims he was hurt. But if there are other women - and there's not just one case, but many - and he holds himself out as a family man and an American paradigm, it's relevant.
"None of this would have been revealed but for his lawsuit and sanctimonious testimony before Congress."

Wow, 2 years have passed. I wonder what happened to Mindy McCready...
