Jose Canseco: Smoking in the boys room
USA Today says MLB authorities caught up with Jose Canseco in the boys room, ostensibly to talk about steroids. Story here:
Admitted steroid user and author Jose Canseco met with two members of the newly-formed Major League Baseball Department of Investigations just prior to a book signing at a Manhattan bookstore on Wednesday.
Canseco, who ended his 17-year major league career in 2001 with the Chicago White Sox, said the meeting with MLB on Wednesday left him "extremely shocked, because the timing seems to be incredible."
Canseco rode an escalator to the second floor of the bookstore and was ushered into a bathroom a little after noon. Inside, Canseco, wearing dark glasses and a shirt barely concealing his muscular build, discussed steroids with senior investigators Victor Burgos and Eduardo Dominguez.
They discussed the steroids issue with Canseco but it was not certain whether or not he would be involved with MLB's attempts to tackle the issue in any role or if the meeting was an attempt to gain information.
A high-ranking MLB official with knowledge of the meeting said the investigators sought out Canseco for questioning as they will anybody who claims to have information about illegal drug use in baseball. The official requested anonymity because he had not been authorized to discuss the department's actions.
Miramar, Fla., attorney Robert Saunooke confirmed the meeting to Florida Today and said that his client has agreed to meet again with Major League Baseball and offered help cleaning up the steroids issue in baseball, if desired.
Canseco? Bathroom? Steroids? MLB? Is this crap or what?
"I've got goose bumps. I'm in shock," said Saunooke, who attended the bathroom meeting...
Saunooke said Canseco has offered to help MLB in the past.
"His exact words were, 'Why now?'" said Saunooke. "Why not three years ago, why now? They agreed 100%. .... It's exactly what we've been asking to let us do for a long, long time."
Why now? Must be some karma from the Bash Brothers shooting up in the locker room.
