Did steroids lead to Kelvin Sampson's texting mania?
We demand Kelvin Sampson submit to a urine test for steroids. Why? After reading this report in the Evening Telegraph we understand that steroids may induce the psychotic sending of hundreds of text messages.
A MAN who sent nearly 1,200 threatening text messages in two weeks to his former girlfriend avoided a jail sentence after the victim said she wanted to give their relationship another go.
In one of the barrage of messages, Tim Tomkinson, 36, of Whiteford Road, Kettering, told his former girlfriend he would put an axe in her head if she got together with any other men.
Guess that is one way to get recruits, keep your girlfriend honest intimidated. The girlfriend added up about 1200 text messages (anyone own Verizon stock?)
She said: "After that the defendant started to text her constantly. During this time, in the region of 1,200 text messages were sent. She was very concerned about the defendant's behaviour. The matter was reported to the police."
Tomkinson had admitted harassment charges relating to his behavior.
Val Blow, in mitigation, said: "To a large extent this was fuelled by the use of steroids. He gave up in November which is when the charges end. He has been getting his life back on track."
Former Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson also seems to be addicted to texting basketball recruits. We demand authorities test Sampson for nandrolone which would explain the texting mania or 'phone addiction'.
Lisa Merlo, an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry at the University of Florida who specializes in obessive-compulsive disorders, says the possibility that phone addiction exists is catching the attention of researchers. Sampson, she says, is merely "the highest-profile person" to exhibit what appears to be a growing problem.
"What we noticed is that a lot of (obsesssive-compulsive) patients were using their cell phones to manage their disorder,'' Merlo says. "They're using their cell phones as a way to manage difficult social situations." Like even breaking up via a text message, making the cell phone a modern-day replacement for the "Dear John" letter.
Forget that, it's steroids-related behavior. Just pee in the cup, Coach.
