Canseco likes playing poker with the ladies, shuns the gents
To Jose Canseco again. Question this time asks 'where has Jose's testosterone level gone?'
Seems Canseco shunned a huge poker tournament this weekend in San Jose, the men's division that is. Tournament organizers hope Canseco will stay true to form showing-up for the ladies division. To the San Jose Mercury:
Not in cards for Jose
Bay 101 in San Jose is playing host to the World Poker Tour's Shooting Star tournament this week, and organizers were expecting a crossover celebrity. But Jose Canseco didn't make it.
Didn't show, didn't call. Just "was not there when the jet showed up" Sunday in Los Angeles, tournament director Matt Savage said.
Did the $10,000 entry fee scare him off? Was it just his natural flakiness?
Perhaps those anabolic steroids reduced Canseco's natural testosterone? Or does he hope for some good 'hands'?
"There's a ladies tournament on Sunday," Savage speculated. "He's become famous for playing in ladies tournaments, so maybe he's doing that."
It turns out Canseco has been something of a trailblazer since California's Bureau of Gaming Control ruled that women-only poker events are discriminatory. Of course, it's also possible the steroids had a far more dramatic effect on Canseco's testosterone level than has been previously reported.
Bay 101 has the women - and those barrier-busting men - at 9 a.m. Sunday.
Or might Canseco be prepping for his rendezvous with IRS BALCO agent Jeff Novitzky about the Clemens Florida party. Talk about a gamble...
