Yankee executive Hank Steinbrenner says the focus on steroids in baseball has given the NFL a pass. Newsday with the report:
Hank Steinbrenner insists baseball is being picked on for its trouble with performance-enhancing drugs, and claims the problem is bigger in football.
"I don't like baseball being singled out," the New York Yankees senior vice president said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Monday night.
"Everybody that knows sports knows football is tailor-made for performance-enhancing drugs. I don't know how they managed to skate by. It irritates me. Don't tell me it's not more prevalent. The number in football is at least twice as many. Look at the speed and size of those players
Steinbrenner's point is well taken. The NFL responded:
Answered NFL spokesman Greg Aiello: "We've had year-round random testing with immediate suspensions since 1990 and we conduct approximately 12,000 steroids tests a year."
Interesting. If the NFL was good at PED detection, why did several Carolina Panthers continue to use PEDs even up to a week or so before the Superbowl?

hank has a big mouth like his dad. i think the comments he made about the red sox are more interesting, in that he told red sox fans that they should think twice about criticizing and booing/razzing andy pettitte for his hgh admissions. yammerin' hank said something to the effect that a lot of red sox were/are using as well and that they just didn't get caught.
with the heightened sensativity with this issue, hand should be concerned that the feds might be wondering if hank - and the other team owners - knows something the rest of us don't.

Sal: While the apple may not have fallen far from the Steinbrenner tree, most people would figure after all the coverage from the past year that the PED problem isn't strictly limited to those listed in the Mitchell report or the on-line pharmacy investigation. As far as the freak of nature middle linebacker who weighs 260 pounds and runs a 4.3 40, well...
