Someone should file this story In the 'This is about as laughable as it gets' or perhaps the 'Do they really think the TV watching public is this incredibly stupid' category. The New York Post (why do the New York papers get all the juicy stories?) reports NBC instituted a steroid testing program for American Gladiators.
(Did you spit coffee or Red Bull all over the computer monitor as you laughed?)
So the most juiced up, 'roided out, and silicone-injected entertainers will be submitting urine for feeble PED tests? In a show hosted by confessed juicer Hulk Hogan? Isn't it obvious?
Th usually unreliable sight test for juice would be extremely reliable for this cast of pumped-up, implanted-out bodybuilders. Perhaps a positive test (if one of the entertainers isn't well schooled on how to beat the tests) will bring even more PR to the show..
THE steroids-in-sports scandal has filtered down to reality TV.
NBC has been testing the 12 cast members of "American Gladiators" for performance-enhancing drugs, according to a report today in the authoritative trade magazine Broadcasting & Cable.
The performers - all body builders competing in a new version of the rough-and-tumble show of the early 1990s - were all tested when they underwent their initial physicals, the magazine says.
In addition, cast members' contracts require them to submit to tests at any time during the competition.
NBC confirmed the steroid tests but declined to give any background on the policy.
It was not immediately clear why NBC thought it necessary to test the competitors for what is clearly an entertainment show - not a sporting event.
The show pits amateurs against professional athletes in competitions of strength and endurance.
Some days we get all the fun stories...

Everyone is on a crazy steroid kick. no can be healthy these days without some fucker accusing them of taking steroids. get off your fat asses and do your research before you accuse someone of juicing. i think that in your research you would find that hard work, dedication and nutrition can build strong muscle just like these gladiators.

I am a former CHEMISTRY Prof currently assisting a Malibu Rehab with Health and Wellness. I've been asked by so many clients over forty about my feelings toward HGH/Testosterone that I blogged on it as well.
I reference what I consider one of the best studies on it so far from the NEW ENG JOURNAL OF MEDICINE.
I also have had the experience of "growing up" at the old Gold's Gym/Muscle beach and training day and night with the best from the dawn of weightlifting. You might be surprised about what I've found (and lived through my own experience/perspective). Link to my blog entry at the bottom of the Rehab website (click on my name below).
