Minnesota Viking defensive end Ray Edwards will receive an unexpected holiday almost the entire month of December, complements of the NFL steroids policy. Edwards apparently tested positive, the Vikings announced today. To the AP Wire via the Miami Herald:
Minnesota Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's policy on steroid use.
Edwards has been a starter for most of the season, but was replaced by Erasmus James for last Sunday's game against Detroit. Coach Brad Childress said that decision had nothing to do with Edwards' violation, which the coach learned of on Wednesday morning.
Childress said he was disappointed in Edwards and could not comment further because of the confidentiality surrounding the policy.
"It's disappointing, but there are policies in place and our players have to adhere to those policies," Childress said. "Every team goes through challenges as you go through the year. We've been through some of our own. It's an opportunity to have others step up."
The Vikes started Edwards at DE much of the season. The former Purdue Boilermaker stands 6-5 at 268 from Cincinnati OH; he had 29 tackles with 25 solos this year. (image=Ben Garvin, Pioneer Press)
The Edwards news comes on a day when the USA Today headlined that supplements can be contaminated with anabolic steroids (which has been known for some time now). Wonder if the 'Shawne Merriman contaminated supplement' defense will be used by Edwards?
Stay away from supplements. Anabolic supplements tend to be under-impressive, unless actually contaminated with real drugs. (which is always our question: sloppy manufacturing or clever contamination of real anabolic steroids to produce 'results')

is ray still on the vikings team or has he been let go ????
