Kansas City Royals still interested in Jose Guillen

A report in the Kansas City Star says the Royals continue to express interest in reputed juicer Jose Guillen.

Figures.  The Royals, once a favorite team of ours, have been mismanaged for over a decade.  Do the Royals understand the possible corrupting influence that a juicer can have on a clubhouse-- especially one who appears falsely unctuous about PED use?

From the KC Star:

060406_guillen_vmed_7pwidec The allegations, if substantiated, could result in a suspension for Guillen, but the Royals still appear interested in pursuing him in hopes of bolstering a power-starved attack that produced the fewest homers and total bases among American League teams.

General manager Dayton Moore declined to address the specific allegations against Guillen but chose not to rule out signing players linked to the use of steroids or human growth hormone.

“Unfortunately, there was a period of time in baseball that we all know now that circumstances like this were occurring,” Moore said. “I think you’ve got to put it into perspective to that particular period of time even if it is a negative mark on the game.”

Get a clue, Royals:  'A period' meaning what 2004?  2005?  You are not going to effect a turnaround for your baseball team by signing juicers.  You propagate a culture of cheating.  Look how great the Rangers, Giants, and Orioles have done going that route.

As we remember, the Royals great years were sidetracked by street drug and cocaine scandals.  Do you really want to sign a multiple PED abuser now?

We are pleased with the Star's article saying this:

Major League Baseball began testing for steroids in 2003 and didn’t ban HGH until 2005, but possession of steroids without a valid prescription has been illegal since 1991.

Perhaps our presentation of the facts has now influenced journalists to remark on the illegality of these substances. Perhaps we are just pompous?
