German pole vaulter Yvonne Buschbaum, a medalist at the Sydney Olympics, announced yesterday she will forgo her life as female, and vault over to the other side of the aisle. Bloomburg with the story:
Buschbaum, who was sixth at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, will undergo a gender-change operation involving hormone treatment, she told the western German newspaper.
"For the most part my decision is the result of my
psychological imbalance,'' Buschbaum told the newspaper. "For
many years I've felt a sense of being in the wrong body.''
'Hormone treatment' means testosterone injections for Ms. Buschbaum. Those would be legal testosterone injections, not the kind Greg Anderson ascertained from AIDS patients in the streets of San Francisco.
