Apparently someone hasn't read a newspaper in about 5 years. The MLB front office announced former MLB pitcher Dan Serafini now will serve a 50 game steroid suspension, if anyone picks up his services next year. Serafini says a Japanese doctor prescribed banned drugs to heal injuries.
Interesting. Are there legal drugs in Japan that are banned in the USA? If given a medication most patients would read and ask about the drugs he/she takes. More relevant as steroids constitute a hot button topic, and as drug testing will expose most anabolic steroids. A player can also apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) application, which allows medical use of certain medically useful, banned as PED drugs. ESPN:
Former Colorado Rockies pitcher Dan Serafini was suspended for 50 games Tuesday, the second player to fail a test for a performance-enhancing drug this season under Major League Baseball's testing program.
The 33-year-old left-hander played in three games and allowed two earned runs in one-third of an inning with the Rockies last season. Currently a free agent, Serafini has played for Minnesota, the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh, San Diego and Cincinnati.
Serafini blamed the positive result on substances prescribed by a doctor in Japan, where he was limited to a total of 16 games in 2006 and 2007 because of what he described as "significant injuries."

i'm always amazed how, when someone is named as a user, 9 times out of 10 they are a journeyman. it's like teams know who is on steroids and want to trade the guy before he gets off the juice.
