Brazilian swimmer Rebeca Gusmoa suspended for steroids

(Update: Gusmao says she has an ovarian disorder (?polycystic ovary disease) which increases testosterone)

She won 2 Pan Am Games gold medals, plus a silver and a bronze.  She looks like the Incredible Hulk.  And, she may have used synthetic testosterone.  Check out her photos; which is the off-cycle?

Summing governing body FINA announced the doping suspensions of Brazil's Rebeca Gusmao. The International Herald carries the story.

Brazilian swimmer Rebeca Gusmao was suspended on Monday for testing positive forPan_180707_rebecamateria_2 testosterone.

The doping violation stemmed from an out-of-competition test on July 13, swimming governing body, FINA, announced.

Gusmao, a double gold medalist at the Pan American Games this year, has requested a test of her B sample, the Brazilian swimming confederation said in a statement.

The confederation dropped Gusmao from the Brazil squad to participate in a World Cup in01151078700 Russia next weekend.

Gusmao, who won four medals at the Pan Ams, was ranked 11th in the world in the 50-meter freestyle.

The swimmer tested positive in May, then again in July.  She also fainted at a recent meet (better check her blood levels of PEDs and her EKG) China Views:

Rebecagusmao_pan2003The test presented abnormal levels of testosterone. In May, another test had showed abnormal testosterone levels in the swimmer's body, but she was not prevented from participating in the Pan American Games in Rio during the July 13-29 period...

As the most recent anti-doping test was carried out shortly before the Pan Am Games, Gusmao runs the risk of losing all the titles she won. According to FINA, she must not participate in any swimming event temporarily, starting on Nov. 2, until the entity establishes a date to judge the matter.

In September, the athlete passed out by the pool following a 50 m freestyle event at the Jose Finkel Trophy, Brazil's most traditional swimming tournament. Then, she alleged tiredness and asthma as the causes for her fainting.

Ridiculous. As a former nationally-ranked swimmer (male) I look at those pictures and just shake my head. Where is the common sense on the part of coaches and officials? You actually need a positive test to determine she's on PEDs? For Christ's sake man, just look at her.

She 3 times the size she was. No way you get that big without steriods or something that come out of lab!!
