Does Jose Canseco love to see his name in the media or what? Last week Canseco not only commented on Curt Schilling's 'roid rage, he called out A-Rod. This week, other sports figures and celebs respond.
Joe Torre and Johnny Damon responded in the New York Daily News.
Following yesterday's game, Torre was disappointed to hear of Canseco's comments and expressed concern about how much an impact they might have on A-Rod when the book is published.
"You worry about anything like that, because unfortunately, when people see it in print, they add credence to it. That's the sad part about it," Torre said. "It's a shame, because when you play this game, you'd like to believe you play with some kind of respect. Obviously, Jose needs the money."
Damon added:
"I just hope he thinks about not ruining someone's life, marriage, or whatever he plans on doing," Damon said. "If that's what Jose Canseco wants to be remembered for, so be it.
"To me, Alex is a great teammate who will always respect the game, play the game right and work hard. He loves the game, so hopefully nothing that can ruin a family or something comes out. ... Hopefully (Canseco will) think twice about it."
A-Rod himself? Been a brutal 10 weeks:
Rodriguez left the clubhouse without comment, though he probably didn't want to answer any more questions about his stalled chase for 500 home runs before catching his flight to Miami for the off-day.
A-Rod went 0-for-2 with three walks in the win over the Orioles, extending his hitless streak to 12 at-bats since hitting No.499 on Wednesday night in Kansas City. He has struck out five times in that stretch, including with the bases loaded in the first inning yesterday.
"He just needs this day off probably more than anybody else," Torre said. "Aside from guys nursing sore bodies, Alex has the emotional stuff going on with him."
The Sporting News says Canseco has talked to George Mitchell in his steroids probe, and just may chat again.
The St Louis Post-Dispatch quotes the New York Times on Canseco's lawyer:
"Jose has information about A-Rod and the Yankees that will be in the book," Canseco's lawyer, Robert O. Saunooke, told The New York Times. "But, I am not sure if Jose is willing to disclose it at this point."

A few years ago, MLB players ridiculed Canseco when he said juicing was widespread. Now, Canseco - of all people - has more credibility than they do.
