Muscular tennis pro Amelie Mauresmo pulls groin; 'Pulls' out of French Open
We don't know who writes the headlines, but an interesting one popped out of the NY TImes today: After Injuring Her Groin, Fifth-Seeded Mauresmo Loses
PARIS, June 2 — During the first set of her third-round match Saturday, Amélie Mauresmo felt a twinge in her right groin, and right then, her chances at winning the French Open vanished.
Even after a doctor wrapped her leg, the fifth-seeded Mauresmo said the injury continued to bother her, causing her to lose to Lucie Safarova, 6-3, 7-6 (3).
How many women suffer groin injuries? We don't have the data, however looking at Mauresmo shows you her muscularity. Google Mauresmo and steroids and you find interesting results like this from the Sports Column:
Take Amelie Mauresmo. Given, she does look like she has done more steroids than a high school football kicker, but she has quietly accomplished some very unique things in the world of tennis.
The Times in a 2002 article says:
But her refreshing individuality has made her the target of innuendo by opponents since she surfaced on the Tour at the 1999 Australian Open. Back then, Lindsay Davenport looked at Mauresmo's broad shoulders and said, ''I thought I was playing a guy out there.'' Then, Martina Hingis piped in with this blunt observation: ''She's half a man; she's here with her girlfriend.''
Interesting. And interesting that more 'roid users suffer off-cycle injuries....When a woman's forearms are more muscular than 99% of the males out there....
