The former president of the University of Iowa, David Skorton resigned over one year ago to ascend to the same position at Cornell University. The Board of Regents formed a much publicized search committee led by ne'er-do-well Michael Gartner (owner of the Iowa Cubs). After hundreds of thousands of dollars, many secret meetings, and the completion of the search, Gartner, royally canceled the search because the result did not match his pre-ordained desires. Iowa needed to reform a committee and start the search all over again. (long long story here at Nicholas Johnson's blog)
Considering that, The Nation believes that the Univ of Iowa should name Arkansas Creighton basketball coach Dana Altman the new president. It could be a race to see who rejects whom first. Gartner calling off the completed search, or Altman backing out of the deal.
Myabe Gartner can charm Mark Prior into pitching for the Iowa team...or could Prior fill either position at Iowa or Arkansas? Can he be a university president or a basketball coach? He might then refuse to go down to Iowa City or Fayetteville.
