FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - Prosecutors opened a criminal investigation of a German doctor suspected of supplying performance-enhancing drugs to a Spanish sports physician at the centre of a major doping scandal.

Federal agents and local prosecutors searched the residence and the office of a German doctor and seized "comprehensive evidence," a statement from the Federal Crime Office, the German equivalent of the FBI, said Thursday. A Civil Guard police report on the investigation cited more than 50 cyclists. Nine riders, including Jan Ullrich, Ivan Basso and Francisco Mancebo, were forced to withdraw before the start of the Tour de France.
